Project Brief –

The Wardha Family Farming project was initiated with the objective of creating a comprehensive agrarian solution that provides end-to-end support to transform small and marginal farming families from subsistence farming to sustainable farming to the farmers of the Wardha district of Maharashtra.

This was intended to be achieved through Naandi’s award winning Regenerative organic model of agriculture, which has been perfected over a span of almost two decades in the Araku valley, and was customised for the Wardha region, since its implementation in 2015. The Regenerative model addresses the end-to-end issues of agriculture including soil fertility, organic carbon, water retention, carbon sequestration including the people who are a part of it, through its implementation over a significant period of time.

Profile –  Agricultural Expert

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To offer agronomic advice to farmers on soil and crop management and post-harvest crop management with respect to Regenerative organic agriculture.

  2. To prepare crop production plan for the planting seasons before the year commences and share updated POPs with the farmers.

  3. Prepare & share list of crops grown during previous season’s separately with information like: Actual area grown (Ac.) under each crop and by variety, actual & extrapolated yield obtained, if possible share cost of production (At least, volume of compost used), crop duration with DOS / DOTP, DOH start, DOH stop, Harvest window period, pest / disease challenges faced, list of pest / disease measures, which were effective, look and taste of produce, customer feedback if any. Scope of further improvements & recommendation for growing these crops during upcoming seasons.

  4. Crop calendar & Seed Protocols: Prepare  seasonal crop calendar for Production and Produce availability and a document having crop wise details of variety / varieties proposed to be grown (Short-listed on the basis of our previous seasons learning), seed source, Conventional or Organic, can the seed be produced by us locally or can it be grown elsewhere by farmers under our organic protocols, Seed Production & storage protocols - SOP, Logical explanation for selection of the recommended variety.

  5. Prepare & release Package of Practices (POP) for each crop. Update the same on the basis of learning at the end of each season.

  6. Develop comprehensive Pest / disease management protocols in consultation with Technical Head / Organic farming experts (From within and outside the organisation), on the findings of own trials of using integrated pest management practices.

  7. Prepare & share with the team “Crop economics” of all crops, grown and short-listed for production.

  8. To conduct regular workshops with farmers on crop management and soil management through regenerative agriculture.

  9. To conceptualise, establish and maintain a demo farm at every knowledge hub and conduct R&D on crops / new varieties / improved Agronomic & irrigation practices & update POPs for each crop.

  10. Agri –extension: Disseminate knowledge on holistic approach towards Regenerative Agriculture.

  11. Impart training on Green manuring, cover crops, inter crops, host plants, live fencing, etc.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. MSc. / BSc. Agriculture.

  2. Relevant experience of around 5 + years in technical & R&D role across Agri / CSR operations with leading organisations.

  3. Good communication skills in English, Marathi and Hindi.

  4. Proficiency in computer skills (Power point, Excel & word) will be preferable.

  5. Knowledge of organic and regenerative agricultural practices would be preferred.

  6. Should be willing and able to align themselves with the Regenerative agriculture model

  7. Can comfortably live within the operational area across Wardha district.

  8. Fluency in Marathi speaking is required

CTC Range

 

Rs. 5 to 6 Lakh per annum
