Established in 1993, Y.R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education (YRG CARE) is a

premier non-government organization providing comprehensive HIV services in India. Its objective is to provide prevention, care, support and treatment services for people living with HIV/AIDS, to prevent new infections, and to ensure that patients and their families are treated with dignity. It is one of the sub-recipients of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) for the ACCELERATE program, a five-year program supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in India.




The overarching goal of the ACCELERATE program is to implement, evaluate, and transition

sustainable and novel models of HIV testing and care. The ACCELERATE program will provide

technical assistance (TA) to National, State, and District HIV/AIDS programs to deliver comprehensive HIV prevention and treatment services to vulnerable populations including people living with HIV, key populations (KP) and their partners; and Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC). The project also aims to demonstrate cost-effective and evidence-based integrated models of care in targeted interventions to cater to the specific needs of transgender individuals.


Qualification: Should possess a minimum of secondary education level. S/he must also have basic working knowledge of English, Hindi and the local language.


Job responsibilities of Assistant – Outreach initiatives (AOI):

  • He/she has to work in close coordination with the designated member of the team till a Technical Co-ordinator / field operations in appointed.

  • They will be attached to a specific geographical area and will work with the field teams and VIHAAN team ensuring no duplication of services.

  • Keep track of drug adherence of patients on ARV, counselling them on the importance of regularity of visits and ARV dosage, Support in OI management

  • Assist in patient retrieval, where necessary and as far as possible through coordination with other staff of ARTC/CSC. Based on the list of LFU and MIS cases received from the ART centre, plan field visits for tracking and motivate the clients to resume their treatment wherever possible, accompany them to the ART centre and other service delivery units.

  • Follow MIS/LFU cases in person at home or the preferred location of the PLHIV, from the provided due list.

  • Support in Index Testing as necessary and case to case basis, by referring the spouses/partners to Index Testing in co-ordination with the Technical Co-ordinator – Non TI.

  • Support formation of Community Based ART Refill Groups, Conduct/Manage these groups by carrying out periodic meetings

  • Refer any CLHIV who need to be enrolled in OVC program

  • Support in VL monitoring activities – follow-up, facilitate scheduling appointment with the ART centre.

  • Should be willing to draw blood for VL and CD4 or any other blood test requirements for the PLHIV at home or any preferred location of choice of the PLHIV and reach it to the nearest ARTC for VL processing.

  • Ensure pick-up and transfer of drugs ARTC/CSC as necessary. Home visits for ARV drug delivery as directed by Medical Officer and also maintain necessary records for the same.

  • Provide EAC at the doorstep in consultation with the PLHIV.

  • To ensure proper linkage through coordination with the linked Community Care Centre & Nodal ART Centre.

  • Accompanied referral to minimise LFU for clients referred to lab investigations or other institutions (as required).

  • Support the PLHIV to avail social welfare schemes, entitlements and other benefits from the local authorities. Referrals for health services and other needs of the PLHIV registered under the programme. Help PLHIV to address stigma and discrimination by the family members and the society. Encourage the family members, spouse, children and sexual partners of PLHIV for HIV and TB testing

  • Support activities under ACCELERATE project as assigned by Technical Co-ordinator – Non-TI.



Other Requirements –

  • Possession of a Two-wheeler is highly preferred.

  • Well versed with local languages

  • Well verse with the allotted geographical area.

  • Good communication skills

  • Work experience in HIV program will be preferred

  • Resident of the districts, blocks, Taluks or areas as required will be preferred.

  • Required to travel a minimum of 25 days in a month


  • Pay Rs. 18000 (Basic pay + minimum productivity based pay). Based on expected performance and achievements, incentives as applicable will be considered.

  • Local travel as per the organisation policy.

  • Contract period – minimum 1 year.
