Title-Communication Officer

Reporting to -Executive Director

Location: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India

Duration: Initially for 1 year but renewable based on the performance and organization’s requirement)

About organization

Kiran Society (KIRAN) is a non-profit organization working for the holistic development of children and persons with disabilities. KIRAN started its intervention in1990 and became a registered entity in 1994. KIRAN is infusing its multi-professional experience for the comprehensive development of children and persons with disabilities through education, rehabilitation, healthcare, capacity building, and inclusion.KIRAN is striving for a society where children and persons with and without disabilities from marginalized communities are welcomed, supported, and encouraged.

Major responsibilities:

1.Coordinate strategic advocacy and programmatic communication

•Support the development of the corporate communication strategy and preparation of the organization’s Internal and External Communications Action Plan.
•Ensure advocacy and communication which are on brand and aligned with the mission and vision of the organization.
•Organize publicity, advocacy, knowledge-sharing events, and promotional opportunities for the organization to support advocacy and awareness-raising.
•Support development and implementation of publication policy.
•Responsible for proofreading and editorial work; quick and detailed research for communication material.
•Support fundraising activities of the organization.

2. Coordinate the digital activities to promote the
organization.

•Manage digital platforms such as website as well as social media presence (Facebook, Twitter account, etc.)

•Support development and implementation of a digital content strategy and manage the development of key communication products (e.g., human-interest stories, photography, video, animations, etc.).

•Update the social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) focusing on storytelling, video, and photos related to the organization’s work.
•Maintain the database of photos and videos.
•Ensure the website is in line with the legal and ethical guidelines.

3. Support and facilitate institutional and retail fundraising activities.
•Create a donor mapping.
•Create a database of proposals in line with the mission and vision of the organization.
•Liaise with the different agencies and portals to keep track of the funding opportunities.
•Ensure regular communication with the Institutional and individual donors.
•Organize capacity-building workshops/sessions for the team to enhance the capacities of the team as a whole.
•Ensure compliance of communication campaigns and activities within donor requirements.

Educational and professional experience

•Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, public relations, business administration, public administration, media relations, journalism, applied sciences, or related discipline required.

•A bachelors’ degree with 2 additional years of relevant professional experience may also be considered.

Experience:
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications, or managing advocacy campaigns.
• Proven relevant experience in the development of dynamic web and digital media content (e.g., photo stories, videos, infographics, etc.).
• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.
• Good knowledge of and experience in handling web-based management systems.
Language and IT skills:
• The role demands substantial writing and verbal communications skills. As English is the official and working language of the Organization, excellent command of both written and spoken English and Hindi is required.
• Satisfactory skills in Google, MS Office products, highly desirable.
• Knowledge of SEO and Digital Marketing will be an advantage.
