COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

UDAYAN is a home and school on the outskirts of Kolkata, for children whose families are affected by Leprosy. These children suffer from the stigma of the disease - they are rarely sent to school and often end up as beggars, street children, child workers or involved in crime.  Girl children become victims of human trafficking.

 

?Set on 8acres of lush, green land, this residential home and school helps transform the lives of up to 300 of these children - who receive the highest quality of care, compassion and education, enabling them to lead healthy, respected, productive lives.

 

Udayan is fortunate to have Australian Cricket Legend, Steve Waugh, and renowned French Author, Dominique Lapierre as Patrons and has received extensive acclaim and support internationally for its work.

 

We are looking for a Communications Manager who can oversee all organizational communications, and manage communications in the form of reporting to donors at Udayan. The successful candidate must have excellent written English skills and have experience in a range of report writing, digital communications, newsletter development and people to people skills.

 

LOCATION: Barrackpore, Kolkata - West Bengal

 

SALARY: Salary will be according to skills/experience of candidate.

 

REPORTING: To the Director (weekly/monthly).

 

Job Responsibilities

 

External Communications& Content Development

  • Responsible for the development (writing of articles and upload onto Mailchimp/Blog) and circulation of Udayan's monthly 'Dawn' newsletter in a timely fashion.

  • Responsible to manage Udayan’s database for all communications on a monthly basis.

  • Responsible for managing Udayan's social media presence including Facebook, Instagram & Youtube, including planning posts, creating quality content, engaging with followers.

  • Responsible for overseeing the Udayan Website and facilitating its updation.

  • Responsible for creating and coordinating content for the Udayan Annual Report.

  • Responsible for capturing high quality case studies and images for integration across mediums.

  • Responsible to help coordinate and capture quality video footage for the creation of scripted videos to promote Udayan, and to support content creation for Udayan social media strategy.

Communication with Child Sponsors

  • Responsible for developing child profiles for sponsorship program.

  • Responsible for ensuring regular reporting and communication with sponsors on the progress of the children in accordance with a predetermined plan.

  • Responsible for developing and managing all collaterals to promote child sponsorship program.

  • Responsible for managing the Sponsorship Database and tracking system.

Support in Donor Reporting

  • Responsible for providing support to Director and Chair in drafting donor reports and other donor communications.

  • Responsible for managing donor database and updating it regularly.

  • Responsible to plan and coordinate donor visits and events.

Advocacy Support

  • Responsible to help plan and promote World Leprosy Day activities.

  • Responsible to provide event coordination support for proposed advocacy events.

Volunteering Program

  • Responsible to promote the Udayan Volunteering program and liaise with prospective volunteers.

  • Responsible to maintain a 'volunteer network' database and communicate with them.

6. Administration & Documentation                  

  • Responsible to provide admin and documentation support to the Director in relation to reporting (donors and board).

  • Other tasks as required, to support Director of Udayan.

Mandatory

  • Post Graduate Degree (Communications, Social Sciences, or Media)

  • High Quality Written English Communication Skills is MANDATORY

  • High level of understanding of, and interest in, organizational communications in the non-profit sector.

  • Communications Skills and experience (both online - social media, websites; and offline - collaterals, reports, photography, case studies, events etc.)

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in relevant sector (Communications, Donor Relations, Media).

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Fluent in both written and spoken Bengali and English.

Desired

  • Good eye for design skills.

  • Experience in managing Child Sponsorship Program
