About the Organization:

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations' global development network. They advocate for change and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life for them. They provide expert advice, training and grants support to developing countries, with increasing emphasis on assistance to the least developed countries. They promote technical and investment cooperation among nations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement strategies for communications and outreach to promote climate action for increased reach and engagements with key partners.

  • Initiate new and strengthen existing partnerships for joint campaigns and advocacy, in coordination with other UN agencies, CSO partners, networks and climate change advocates.

  • Build strong digital presence for UNDP’s work and advocacy priorities related to climate change, natural resource management and disaster management on its own and partners’ digital and social media channels.

  • Ensure high-quality documentation of impact stories, best practices from project locations for disseminations with donors, media, partner ministries and social media promotions.

  • Support media engagements to ensure wider visibility for UNDP’s work on climate change on national as well as regional channels and platforms. 

  • Support programme teams in developing impactful pitches for resource mobilization and support the government in preparation of policy documents.

  • Ensure high-quality reporting of results and achievements to donors.

  • Support the Head of Communications and the core communications team on flagship campaigns and advocacy initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience:

Min. Academic Education:

  • Master’s degree in mass communication, marketing, public relations, social sciences, environmental sciences, development studies or a related field.

Min. years of relevant Work experience:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy on climate change;

  • Strong experience of designing and implementing communications strategy, community outreach and media engagements, with special focus on climate change or environmental issues.

  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory;

  • Experience and ability to integrate film, video, audio and photography into compelling communications will be essential.
