Job Summary:


The Community Coordinator will closely work with the Clinic Coordinator and M&E Officer to plan the service delivery activities in the district. The Community Coordinator will work with the team of Community Mobilisers and other field/outreach staff to promote the clinical services through innovative approaches, create demand and deliver need-based services. The Community Coordinator is also expected to take lead on advocacy and partnership building initiatives with various stakeholders such as Govt, NGOs & Pvt institutions. The Community Coordinator will be reporting to the Clinic Coordinator.


Specific responsibilities:

  • In close coordination with Clinic Coordinator and M&E Officer plans the monthly/quarterly service delivery plan and promotional activities including one to group meetings, community events and health camps

  • Supervises the team of Community Mobilisers and other outreach field staff in service delivery planning, target vs. achievement, documentation and spot checks on the sites

  • Guide the field team in planning large scale community mobilisation activities

  • Finding innovative ways in the engaging community and linking them with clinical services and ensuring retention

  • Coming up with innovative ways to promote and dispense condom and lube competently in the local context and environment

  • Regular coordination with MSM and TG-H TI NGO/CBO, ACCELERATE Non-TI activities, CBIT team and other prevention and treatment services for smooth functioning of outreach activities and service delivery

  • Establishes rapport with local formal and informal LGBT support groups and party organisers to collaborate on awareness sessions, clinic service promotions and venue-based health camps

  • Regular meetings with private practitioners, clinics and experts providing Gender Affirmation Services and establishes referral service points for psychiatry screenings, gender affirming surgeries, facial feminisation services and any other cosmetic intervention

  • Advocates and develops referral linkages in Govt health facilities to initiate Gender Affirmation Services with different departments such as but not limited to – Endocrinology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Plastic Surgeons, Gynaecology, General Medicine, etc

  • Conduct need based and result oriented advocacy and sensitisation meetings with District Collector, District Magistrate and other Govt functionaries to secure social protection services under various Govt schemes for TG-H people such as but not limited to – pension, free ration, banking, insurance, housing, education, livelihood and loans for business opportunities

  • Plan and execute awareness sessions, meetings and camps for TG-H people to educate on accessing legal gender recognition documents and other various schemes that may benefit the overall being of the community

  • Sensitisation meetings with law enforcement agencies and develops a roster of TG-H and LGBT friendly lawyers who can help in crisis interventions and other legal support

  • Documents real field experiences, success stories, challenges, good practices in the form of case studies

  • Any other work assigned by supervisor within ambit of the project ACCELERATE.

Qualification and Skills;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or any other field with relevant 3 years of experience

  • Knowledge on Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Nonconforming People, The World Professional Association for Transgender Health, 7th version

  • Knowledge and skills related to MS Office and savvy to technology and social media handles

  • Trans identified person preferred for this position with knowledge of English, Marathi and Hindi language

  • Maintains professionalism and able to manage a team and demonstrate leadership in teamwork, conflict resolution and achieving desired results

  • Capable of looking at problems and opportunities from technical and community perspective and taking balanced decisions

Note: This position is only open for people belonging to LGBT community, however preference will be given to Trans people based on the qualification, experience and performance during interview rounds.
