MAMTA’s journey began in the urban slums of New Delhi in 1990 in the field of mother and child health and nutrition. In the last 27years, MAMTA has evolved in to a leading, multi-pronged, national level in situation that is focused on empowering people and communities; building capacities; forging partnerships and alliances; building evidences on implementation as a science to advance policy and programme investments for health and nutrition of the marginalized.

MAMTA works through the mechanism of direct intervention, community mobilization, health system strengthening, networking and policy advocacy in close partnership with government and public health systems, civil societies, academic institutions, corporate sector and the community at large. MAMTA extends its work in four broad thematic areas:

• Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN)
• Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (YSRHR)
• Communicable Diseases (CDs) such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis ‘B’ & ‘C’
• Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

The organization has a strong team of 850 fulltime staff with multi-disciplinary senior and middle management teams. The MAMTA team, along with 136 NGO partners, is driving the health and empowerment agenda in India and across borders. In addition to India, last decade has observed spread of our work as a technical support agency to countries of South and South East Asian region as well. The Deputy Director Research is a senior management level position in the organization. The Deputy Director will work as senior management team member contributing to research and evidence building on issues of MCH, SRH, Adolescent Health and NCD’s/ CD. S/he would lead proposal development, research design, tool development, data analysis, report writing, presentation and work closely with the programme teams for building strong monitoring tools in the ongoing/ future programmes. Deputy Director will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Developing qualitative/quantitative research proposals, including designs, approach, methodology, operational plan, quality assurance and budget.
2. Leading a team of researchers – internal and coordinating with external research outsourced and international expertise under collaboration.
3. Independently spearheading and executing research studies and assignments – both internal and external where MAMTA applies.
4. Guiding junior researchers for publication in high impact journals.
5. Developing business in MAMTA for its research and evaluation verticals.
6. Liaising with clients, potential clients, partner organizations, consultants, vendors and other relevant agencies.
7. Preparing reports and presentations of study findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, National and International peer reviewed journal publication.
8. Responsible for executing other tasks as assigned from time to time.


Applicants must be a Post Graduate in Medical Sciences (MBBS, MD in community medicine)/ Social Sciences/ Social Work/ Population Sciences or a related field, from a reputed institute. Applicants having Ph.D. degree will always be preferred.

More than 15-20 years for candidate with MD/ Ph.D., 20 years with focus on RMNCH+A/ NCD- CD’s/Social determinants of health and robust research understanding and publication in high impact peer reviewed journals.

Skills and Attributes:

Candidates must have:

(1) Command over research design and scientific reports
(2) Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research, programme impact evaluation and monitoring framework;
(3) Good understanding on data analysis using SPSS/Strata for large scale primary data bases and available secondary NFHS, DLHS, AHS and NSSO data bases;
(4) Skills of qualitative data analysis and software would be asset;
(5) Command over development of technical reports and publication (peer reviewed journal publication, International conferences presentation) and non-technical contents;
(6) Pleasant Personality and communication skill in English presenting organization at International platforms.
