3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior finance professional, with an affinity for social cause, to independently direct and lead the operations of a respected, not-for-profit organization, covering the Finance, Legal, HR and IT functions, with emphasis on compliance, regulatory, and audit aspects.

Reporting to the Vice President and Regional Director, Asia, the Director- Finance and Operations India (DFOI) will oversee the Operations Team and work closely with Smile Train HQ colleagues in the Operations Department, encompassing Finance, Legal, HR, and IT.

The DFOI must have a strong background of finance, accounts and business administration, along with by a sound understanding of financial statements, GAAP, law and the regulatory framework applicable to non-profits in India, with the ability to meaningfully interpret these for members of the Operations Team and the organization.

S/he should have in-depth familiarity with FCRA and be knowledgeable about relevant regulations, changes and amendments that would be applicable to Smile Train India.

The post holder will play a key part in anticipating and identifying critical system needs for better supporting the organization’s programs and operations management, and proactively delivering such systems in a timely and cost-effective manner, besides ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

S/he shall need to be an organized and proactive professional, with a strong commitment to Smile Train’s vision and mission in India and beyond.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(1) Manage, direct and oversee all aspects of Smile Train India’s operations, ensuring legal, regulatory and audit compliances, apart from financial risk management;
(2) Plan, monitor, and analyse key metrics for the day-to-day performance of operations, with emphasis on the efficient and timely completion of tasks;
(3) Develop the annual administration budget, based on the business plans of the organization and growth envisaged in terms of the number of employees, programs, infrastructure, etc.;
(4) Ensure periodic filings and monitor all aspects of compliance with laws and regulations, as applicable, to not-for-profit organizations, such as the Societies Registration Act, FCRA etc.;
(5) Assist the Finance and Audit Committee in creating financial scenarios consistent with Smile Train India’s strategy, revenue streams, expected expenses and organizational growth plans;
(6) Liaise with the Vice President and Regional Director to set strategic goals and make appropriate decisions for all operational activities;
(7) Ensure that all financial and accounting transactions at Smile Train India are compliant with statutory rules and regulations applicable (e.g. FCRA, Income Tax, RBI Rules, etc.);
(8) Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to ensure that Smile Train India is able to deliver on its vision;
(9) Uphold organizational policies and standards, ensuring that legislative regulations are followed;
(10) In collaboration with the HQ IT team, facilitate integration with new information systems technologies, for better efficiency and ease of operations;
(11) Review, analyze and evaluate all business procedures;
(12) Oversee and manage relationships with all relevant vendors and consultants, including legal, financial, and recruitment firms;
(13) Oversee annual audit, sharing key outcomes with relevant colleagues;
(14) Schedule and organize STI board meetings;
(15) Regularly evaluate the efficiency of business processes and procedures according to organizational objectives and effect improvements;
(16) Mentor and provide leadership and technical guidance to the Operations Team, thereby developing strong internal competencies, as well as a conducive work environment;
(17) Manage Smile Train India’s Delhi Office, with emphasis on IT, facilities management, and office management.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications:
(1) Applicants must have a professional qualification in Finance and Accounts, such as CA, ICMA, ICWA, or equivalent;
(2) Applicants having an MBA in Finance, with sound exposure to handling FCRA and regulatory job responsibilities applicable to not-for-profit organisations in India, shall also be considered.

Experience:
(1) Minimum 10 years of experience in managing finance, accounts and operations, for not-for-profit organizations, preferably in the healthcare space, of which five years should be in leadership roles;
(2) Strong understanding of the Indian charity regulatory and compliance environment;
(3) Experience of working with global not-for-profit organisations will be an asset.

Essential Skills and Competencies:
(1) Fluency in both English and Hindi;
(2) Excellent organizational and leadership abilities;
(3) Outstanding communication and people skills;
(4) A global mindset: demonstrating cultural sensitivity, adaptability, with the ability to recalibrate work styles to draw forth the best efforts of team members, collaborators and/or partners;
(5) Experience in and sound understanding of the development sector;
(6) Ability to create systems and process for accounting and reporting as per organizational requirements;
(7) High levels of professionalism, energy, and commitment to excellence;
(8) Experience in and knowledge of ERP based accounting and financial systems;
(9) Excellent staff management skills and the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.

6. LOCATION: New Delhi.

(Note: The Director- Finance and Operations shall be based at New Delhi and expected to work from home until the pandemic ends. The post-holder shall work from the Smile Train India Office in New Delhi, thereafter.)
