Position Description

Global Health Strategies Institute is seeking an intelligent, passionate public health professional with in-depth knowledge of public health issues, government policies, programs, and schemes for one of its projects in district Bharuch, Gujarat with a goal is to implement a holistic public health-care model of essential health and nutrition services in one block (Hansot) of Bharuch district of Gujarat that can be replicated across the district and the State. The key objectives of the project are:

  1. To demonstrate the feasibility of the comprehensive health program, which is based on existing policies, by supporting the implementation of government programs.

  2. To develop and pilot a Tele-heath / Tele-Medicine services to ensure reach and greater uptake of health services by communities especially the population falls under marginalized and hard to reach areas.

  3. Use conventional and innovative communications strategies to ensure awareness of the program and sustained involvement of communities.

  4. Build partnership with other organizations to support scale-up.

GHSi is looking for two full time field coordinators (consultant) who will be based in Bharuch, Gujarat.  The candidates will report to the Program Manager, a full time GHS employee. They will also work in close co-ordination with the Technical Director to the project. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of Manager and District Coordinator, assist in implementing the field activities as per the work-plan.

  • Assist the front-line workers and mobile health teams in developing effective micro-plans to screen school going and out of schoolboys and girls.

  • Assist in capacity building of teachers, front line workers and peer educators on specific health issues / interventions in schools.

  • Participate / facilitate training of services provider, front line workers and community leaders on Tele-Health / Medicine.

  • Support service provider to roll-out Tele-Health / Medicine plan in selected areas.

  • Assist the Health, Education and ICDS departments to plan and roll-out effective weekly Iron Folic Acid supplementation and De-worming program.

  • Provide technical assistance in monitoring, supervision, and capacity building of government functionaries to strengthen program implementation.

  • Assist in capacity building of the local leadership and influencers (e.g., Gram Pradhans, religious leaders and other community influencers) by keeping them informed about the program.

  • Engage with relevant government departments (education, health, PRI) at block level to ensure effective implementation of the school health program through regular monitoring.

  • Maintaining a good rapport with the influencers and encourage them in leveraging community level platforms (VHSNC, Panchayat meetings, health camp, etc.) to spread awareness on health issues.

  • Collect and consolidate data as per the M&E plan.

  • Provide timely and relevant field level feedback on barriers and successes to the key program manager.

  • Perform other related duties as entrusted by supervisor from time to time.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in public health or social work) or equivalent with at-least 2 years of relevant field experience.   

  • Understanding of public health issues, government programs / schemes in Gujarat.

  • Good documentation skills.

  • Fluency in both Hindi and Gujarati.

  • Availability to travel in the field.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
