SHARE India, a not for profit society has been registered under the AP Public Societies Registration act in 1986. SHARE INDIA provides technical assistance (TA) to the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) through its projects covering key aspects of the program such as infection prevention and control (IPC), Latent TB Infection (LTBI), enhanced pediatric TB diagnosis and multi-drug resistant TB (MDR TB). As an overarching element, SHARE INDIA also builds capacity of the NTEP staff in effectively using programmatic data for course-corrections. The above activities are funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) under Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) with an overall aim of expediting the national efforts in accomplishing the goal of ending TB in India by year 2025.

SHARE INIDA with its Airborne infection control (AIC) unit has laid the foundation for infection control in Mumbai since 2016. The on-going COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need of efficient infection prevention and control practices in health care settings even more. The recent national IPC guidelines (2020), Government of India (GoI) strongly recommends implementation of IPC activities to minimize the risk of spread of infection to patient’s/healthcare staff/community. Given the context, SHARE INDIA is supporting ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ campaign with a focus on building the infection control units in states across India. The state IPC teams will be trained, mentored, to conduct periodic institutional assessment as per the IPC guidelines. SHARE INDIA with the CDC will provide technical assistance to the Central TB Division and states to expand their infection control activities.

Position Summary:
The Infection Control Architect will work closely under the guidance of Associate Project Director and Senior Project Manager. The Infection Control Architect will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team of infection control experts consisting of Microbiologist and infection control nurse. S/he should bring in strong subject matter expertise on airborne/environmental control in infection control. S/he will be part of assessments at various primary, secondary and tertiary level health facilities. S/he should make measured drawings of the facilities, floor plans, study patient flows, observe air changes, airflow direction as part of health facility visits. S/he should understand the health perspective and make feasible recommendations to enable health facilities implement infection control practices. The Infection Control Architect will also develop capacities of the engineers and Architects of public works departments, state/district/wards and also support in providing inputs at the planning and design at state/district/health facility level. S/he will develop partnerships and networks required for advocating Infection Control activities at the engineering and health planning departments at state and national levels. S/he must also be able to work with ease on Microsoft excel, AutoCAD and must be current with the apps/software relevant to his work area.

Specific roles of this position include:

1. Program Planning:
a) Provide leadership and guidance to health facility in charges on Administrative, Personnel Protection and Environmental measures to be taken for implementation of infection Control activities at high infectious settings/hospitals to prevent transmission of TB.
b) Support the IPC team in developing innovative approaches to improve quality of infection control measures in healthcare facilities and Tuberculosis (TB) Laboratories with an architectural/structural perspective.
c) Suggest measures to the administration and senior management of health facilities on low cost, user friendly options and sustainable innovations to strengthen airborne infection control measures.
d) Draw up schedule of regular and frequent site visits for health facility assessments and assess the progress of infection control implementation,
e) Participate and contribute to the development of internal reporting systems, prepare detailed implementation plans, monthly / quarterly / annual work plan, narrative reports and financial reports, and assist in annual budgeting exercises as required for the project and support the Senior Manager and other team members.

2. Capacity Development:
a) The Architect will be responsible to support the state/district level stake holders to enhance their capacity of for management of infection control activities ensuring good air exchange and ventilation required for dilution of infectious particles in high risk infectious settings in public health institutions with focus on prevention of transmission of TB.
b) Guide the staff of public health facilities in taking up civil, mechanical works and as part of infection control activities.
c) Provide assistance to the team in identifying and negotiating with external resources for training and technical aspects of the program.
d) Support IPC team in development of training modules, build the master trainers through training of trainers, prepare documents in relation to various technical aspects with field visit experiences.

3. Representation and Advocacy:
a) Interact and build relationships with senior government officials, liaise with representatives of the medical fraternity, establish linkages with potential partner centres, etc., to enhance the effectiveness of the project.
b) Be responsible for effective coordination with the engineering staffs and medical staff, and other stake holders at state/national levels for bringing collaboration and to bring synergy to the project.

4. Program monitoring and feedback:
a) Conducting routine meetings at the field level, attend meetings, and update the senior management on the status of project implementation periodically.
b) Conduct meeting with higher officials at MCGM/States/CTD on various technical aspects of the implementations of the suggestions and report back to senior management.

5. Documentation and reporting:
a) Be responsible for making reports of various assessments/visits in consensus with the IPC team.
b) Be responsible to get the good practices, success stories documented and ensuring regular reporting by the facilities and provide periodical reports to the CDC, State TB office, Central TB Division as and when required.

6. Team synergy and cross collaborations:
a) Be a team player and develop cross collaborations with different projects within the organization.
b) Share the attained knowledge, expertise and experience and support other projects working on similar thematic areas at the organizational level.

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. M.Arch (Environmental Architecture) is preferred.
2. B.Arch with minimum 5 years’ experience.
3. Architect with experience in hospital designing/experience in public health programs or building/systems engineering will be preferred.
4. Should have proven ability in critical thinking, strategy formulation, leadership and team building in a public health program setting. Creative solutions and thinking regarding building systems engineering is essential. The candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of buildings systems and creative approaches to space planning in order to assist the IPC unit in making environmental recommendations for the improvement of airborne infection control measures in the health care facilities.
5. Previous experience or training on AIC, HVAC systems, and/or building designwill be an added advantage.
6. Excellent communication skills both written as well as verbal in English and Hindi.
7. Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, recent software etc.
