Job Description for Lead Capacity Building – Education

School education today is facing unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic and school closures, and also with the release of the New Education Policy. This has necessitated the need to bring about rapid and groundbreaking changes in the structures and practices of the education space. Urban/ rural, educated/ uneducated, rich/poor, abled/ differently abled…all sections of the population have been affected by the lack of appropriate learning opportunities during school closures and the inadequate knowledge regarding the utilization of appropriate means to ensure remote learning. However, change is happening and state governments are gradually coming to terms with the situation. All they need is a supportive social sector to bolster their efforts to meet the new challenges. An organization like SMF is doing just that through well researched and innovative educational programs for government schools. We can do with a little bit of help and support.

SMF is a non-profit organization established with an aim to strengthen the public education system and support schools to enrich their capacities for fostering the holistic development of children with emphasis on values-based learning environments and life-skills education.

About the Programs:
SMF has been creating and implementing meaningful, impact-centric interventions and state-wide platforms for school systems. Various state governments have deeply engaged with us in the domains of School Assessment and Accreditation, Values-based Education and Life Skills, Civic Engagement, Early Childhood Education using the MLE approach and Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment.

About the role:
As a team, CB is continuously working on new innovations using learner-centric design, adult learning principles, blended learning approach to make our learning experience truly facilitative and self-learning focused.
Under the guidance of the Head Centre of Excellence, the Lead Capacity Building shall be responsible for designing high quality learner experiences and will also lead in building up an education team with knowledge, skills and expertise in teaching learning and leadership.

Specifically, we are looking for a person who will:

A. Design Trainings & sessions:
a) Identify training needs and delivery strategies (mechanism, platforms, process) as per project
b) Work closely with the content-curricula team to design relevant training modules
c) Work closely with instructional designers and the creative team so that the resources are developed as per need/audience
d) Identify and coordinate on design and delivery of appropriate training resource (printed modules/videos/audio instructions/as need be)
e) Prepare detailed session plans, for each level of training
f) Create checklists/templates for offline and online training delivery
g) Put in place standard procedures for delivering trainings (online and offline) with recommendations/best practices

B. Manage training operations and delivery in consultation with the operations team:
a) Contribute to over-all program design design/strategy
b) Define training delivery plan (cascade/direct)
c) Work closely with the project lead to put to identify training schedules (master trainers, batches, batch wise scheduling, venue management)
d) Work closely with the program team to ensure that required training resources are available in preparation of the training, in time
e) Conduct trainings and over-see delivery of all trainings
f) Identify and ensure training of other training resource person/s as per project needs
g) Put in place mechanisms for feedback on trainings done by other resource persons (both online and offline modes)
h) Ensure that training budgets are well managed, and tracked
i) Ensure all training related documentation (participant’s list, expense reports, etc) are in place and submitted in time

C. Undertake Documentation and Reporting:
a) Work closely with the M&E team to design relevant training feedback and response mechanisms
b) Ensure that the training feedback is collected, collated, analyzed, and is used back for improving other training
c) Submit training reports as per program needs
d) Provide support to the program at all levels in effective digital data management, validation, analysis and its application to guide policies and actions

Qualifications and Experience:
1. A Bachelor’s degree in communication, education, psychology or related field, or additional 5-7 years’ work experience in the field
2. 7-8 years of on-field experience of managing, leading, coordinating, delivering trainings at scale. Especially to government functionaries, or schoolteachers (primary schools) or field teams (NGOs)
3. Experience of planning and delivering trainings (especially with government stakeholders) is a must
4. Experience of conducting online trainings to a diverse audience is desirable (could be through development of training videos/zoom session/or any other mechanism of reaching different audience remotely)
5. Experience of working with district or block level school support functionaries on the key areas of school improvement.

Skills and Competencies:
-Expertise in spoken and written English and Hindi is a must
-Knowledge of any other Indian language is desirable
-Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Project, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, MIS or other database management systems
-Understanding of the principles and practices of behaviour change in the school and classroom context
-Understanding of how children learn
-Willingness to learn and embrace appropriate change
-Willingness to travel and engage with members of the community to enhance learning
-Understanding the role of education leadership in improving learning outcomes
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Self-motivated, and happy to work unsupervised using own initiative
