Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters and exclusion from healthcare.

We have been present in India since 1999 providing free-of-charge essential healthcare to people in remote areas, and specialist care for people affected by HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, hepatitis C, antibiotic resistance, tuberculosis, kala azar and sexual and gender-based violence. MSF was awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development in 1996 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

COVID-19 emergency intervention

Today we are facing a new global challenge. MSF/ Doctors Without Borders teams are racing to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in over 70 countries, including opening new projects in areas that are becoming pandemic hotspots. In India, Maharashtra has more COVID cases in the country. The rising number of confirmed cases especially in the outside Mumbai requires more focused approaches and interventions.

MSF/ Doctors Without Borders decided to start an emergency intervention to support and strengthen COVID response in Palghar district by focusing on:

- Disease prevention in Dahanu and Jawahar taluks (health promotion, Water and Sanitation);
- Management of COVID-19 ward for mild to moderate cases


Doctors Without Borders India has initiated an assessment around mid-May in the State of Maharashtra for Covid-19 pandemic during the second wave as the State had highest number of infection in the country. An explo team made an assessment in several places including Palghar district, Maharashtra which is a newly founded district in 2014. Palghar district has tribal population and varali paintings are very popular showing tribal heritage. Based on the outcome from the assessment, DWBI proposed to support Jawahar and Dahanu Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) and 4 Primary Health Centres under Jawahar taluk for mild and moderate Covid patients in screening and triage among the beneficiaries of the regular health programs and strengthen community prevention/shielding through health promotion packages for high risk population.

This is an intervention under Emergency support for short term with the approval of the district administration and health authorities under Palghar district.

Main purpose of the role

Ensuring the correct planning, implementation and monitoring of the logistics activities and programs in the both project sites of Jawahar & Dahanu taluk and coordinating human and material related resources needed, in accordance with DWBI standards and protocols in order to contribute to the proper development of the mission and to optimize the impact of the medical projects.

Main accountabilities

• In collaboration with the Project Coordinator, and the Logistics Coordinator, defining, implementing and monitoring logistics activities and when needed, the logistics operational priorities, according to DWBI project plan, standards and protocols.
• Participating in the development of the policies, annual plans, proposals, and budget review, as well as exploratory missions/situation assessments and supporting the activities of the project with resources, procedures and tools defined with the Logistics Coordinator, in order to facilitate achievement of the operational objectives
• Coordinating, organizing, supervising, coaching and providing technical support to the logistics team members in order to improve the logistics components of the project
• Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the Project Coordinator, the associated processes (recruitment, training, induction, performance evaluation, development and internal / external communication) of the logistics staff of the project in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, improve people capabilities.
• Management of the logistics of the material resources for the Project, under the supervision of the line manager and the technical adviser.
• WHS: implementation of the water, health and sanitation activities

Monthly Gross Salary: INR 85,461 and

Qualifications: Essential Graduate degree with Technical skills.

Experience: Essential, working experience of at least two years in relevant jobs and previous humanitarian experience in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries, managing large teams. Desirable previous experience in emergencies.

As this recruitment is for a specific emergency response on COVID-19, it is important that staff only apply for this position if they do not have one of the major risk factors for COVID namely existing cardiac complications, diabetes, hypertension, pregnancy or age > 55 years.

Duration: Until 31st Aug 2021 (Renewable depending upon project needs)
