 2.  Context

 

Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) is registered in India as a not for profit company under Chapter Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. JSCF is an associate member of WaterAid International and used the brand name ‘WaterAid’ in India. WaterAid‘s mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. WaterAid India’s goal is to “Make Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) poverty history in the country”.

 

WaterAid began working in India in 1986. WaterAid India (WAI) focuses on the poorer states in the country to better target India's most vulnerable communities. The head office is in the nation’s capital, New Delhi. WaterAid India also has Regional Programme Offices in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and Lucknow. We currently work in 11 states in the country.

 

WAI’s Programme focus in the next five years is on promoting and securing rights and access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation for the poor in particular through direct services and millions more through our influencing work. WAI is initiating a time bound project titled “Waste Water Management in Rural India” focusing on sustaining the progress made by the states on sanitation by addressing the challenges of faecal sludge and grey water management. The project aims to work very closely with the Government of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh by demonstrating functional models of grey water and faecal sludge management in varied rural context and provide technical assistance to the government for scaling up the interventions.

 

Contract Duration: 2 years (extendable and coterminous with the project)

 

3. Responsibilities 

  • Assess requirement and plan for potential solutions for grey water management in intensive districts

  • Identify the need for engineering surveys and develop detailed scope of work.

  • Demonstrate different decentralized household and /Neighbourhood level solution in intensive districts

  • Provide technical support to state and district administration on appropriate technology selection, impact assessment, evaluation and detailed Project Report

  • Lead in preparing customized capacity building module and knowledge dissemination program within and outside WaterAid.

  • Coordinate and provide technical support to state government in building strategy for grey water management with reference to SBM 2.0 in rural context.

  • Support the State and selected Districts/Panchayats to develop Grey water management strategy and model action plan for execution at village/GP level preferring simple technology.

  • Lead in developing state, District/Panchayat level regulations, guideline, standard operating procedure related to grey water/liquid waste management.

  • Develop capacity building plans related to grey water management in consultation with SBM (G), Zila Panchayat, Gram Panchayat

4.  Eligibilities and requirements

 

Education

  • Degree in environmental or civil engineering. Preference would be given to candidate with master’s degree.

Experience

  • Between 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in similar organisational/functional context.

  • Experience of working closely with state and district government on the issue of sanitation will be desirable

Other specifications

  • Sound understanding of issues pertaining to rural sanitation in India

  • Exceptional communications and presentation skills, both written and oral, in English and Hindi

  • Proactive and self-motivated individual capable of engaging persuasively with various stakeholders

  • A self-starter, able to work independently

  • Ability to travel extensively

  • Prioritise set and meet deadlines
