The Project


Under a USAID grant, JSI Research and Training Institute Inc., (JSI) has been mandated to provide technical assistance to the Government of India and State governments of several states to identify challenges and facilitate feasible solutions to address them to rapidly ramp up COVID 19 vaccination in the country, aligned with the prevalent Government of India policy. John Snow India Pvt Ltd (JSIPL) will be the lead partner to aggregate, coordinate, and support the National and State Governments with the technical assistance required to facilitate the scale-up of COVID 19 vaccination in the population, supported by several sub-partners. The interventions will support demand and supply-side acceleration at the national, state, and sub-state levels. The technical assistance areas will be flexible and depend upon the needs expressed by the national and respective state governments and include but are not limited to supply chain, technology support, last-mile delivery, micro-planning, demand generation, data analysis, workforce expansion, and other areas. 


Job Summary


The Research Officer (AEFI) will be responsible for analysing data related to AEFI surveillance for preparing reports, drafting research papers; lead preparation of research proposals and conduct research; conduct literature search and review; contribute to preparation of guidelines, job aids, etc.   




  • Support in literature searches and collate available scientific evidence on vaccine safety and adverse events following immunization and present in a framework for easy understanding and use.

  • Categorize and store available articles and resources for easy retrieval and knowledge management. 

  • Regularly analyze vaccine safety database and linelist and generate reports and fact sheets on specific events, reporting rates and vaccine safety indicators. 

  • Prepare draft scientific manuscripts/articles, case series / reports, datasets and other reports and presentations. 

  • Contribute to development/updation/revision of guidelines/SOPs related to vaccine safety and adverse events

  • Provide inputs in designing surveys, experimental designs and cohort studies. 

  • Any other project related activities may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor/ Assist in any other research and programmatic work for day to day functioning of the unit 

  • Travel extensively to state, district and block level for required support as and when needed 

  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor 

Qualifications and Skills  


JSIPL seeks a results-oriented individual with the ability to produce high quality deliverables, managing multiple concurrent tasks, and meet tight deadlines with attention to detail. The successful candidate is required to have:

  • MBBS/BDS/BHMS/BAMS/BPT/B. Pharma with MPH from a recognized university 

  • Three years’ experience of working in a public health programme, conducting literature searches and review, collate information from different sources in a coherent manner and prepare concise reports 

  • Familiarity with immunization programme/pharmacovigilance processes will be an added advantage 

  • Published peer reviewed articles 

  • Proficient user of any statistical software such as STATA, R, SPSS and also MS Excel; 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi

  • Knowledge of public health issues, immunization program, previous experience of publishing peer reviewed articles.

  • Excellent interpersonal relations; ability to network, work in multi-cultural team environment, and work harmoniously with multiple partners

  • Good working knowledge of computer applications, especially MS office

  • Strong and proven documentation and organizational skills
