In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases. These programs are funded by USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), MSD for Mothers and other anonymous donors.
Jhpiego has been at the forefront of strengthening the nursing cadre in India and a strong advocate for investment, empowerment and career progression of nurses. Jhpiego has been working closely with the MoHFW, GoI, Indian Nursing Council (INC) and various state governments to provide technical assistance (TA) for strengthening the nursing cadre in India. This support includes work on improving the quality of pre?service education (PSE), creating an enabling policy environment for nursing, improving the leadership and management capacity of nurses and ensuring a greater role for nurses and midwives in clinical and programmatic decision making. Further, giving an unprecedented thrust to midwifery in the country, Jhpiego is providing TA for establishing ‘Nurse Practitioners in Midwifery’ and ‘Midwifery-led Care Units’
