The Project


Under a USAID grant, JSI has been mandated to provide technical assistance to the Government of India and State governments of several states to identify challenges and facilitate feasible solutions to address them to rapidly ramp up COVID vaccination in the country, aligned with the prevalent Government of India policy. JSIPL will be the lead partner to aggregate, coordinate, and support the National and State Governments with the technical assistance required to facilitate the scale-up of COVID vaccination in the population, supported by several sub-partners. The interventions will support demand and supply-side acceleration at the national, state, and sub-state levels. The technical assistance areas will be flexible and depend upon the needs expressed by the national and respective state governments and include but are not limited to supply chain, digital health and technology support, last-mile delivery, micro-planning, demand generation, data analysis, workforce expansion, and other areas. 


Job Brief


JSIPL is URGENTLY looking for a Risk Communications Lead to provide leadership in helping the states in designing and executing effective risk communication strategies and campaigns for the Covid 19 Vaccination project. The purpose is to identify and remove barriers which are inhbiting the vulnerable population from getting the COVID vaccine, thus improving demand for vaccine. The incumbent will serve a vital role in synthesizing project priorities and driving leadership voice through coordination within the Communications team and with the affiliates and key partners. The role will be based in New Delhi. S/he will report to the Project Director and be an integral part of the program’s leadership team.


Specific Duties:

  • Lead the formulation of coherent short and long-term information, risk communication, and advocacy plans and strategies, based on formative research and secondary information, to achieve the program objectives of scaling up COVID vaccine coverage in the states. 

  • Plan and formulate innovative and effective tools at the national, state and sub state level to create awareness about the need, benefits, safety and availability of the vaccines under the GoI’s Covid 19 vaccine deployment program.

  • Work closely with officials within the Government of India, State Governments, JSI Heaquarters, National and State level teams, partner NGOs and other actors to ensure participatory and complementary approach in the formulation and development of strategic communication frameworks and tools to enhance public trust and increase demand for vaccination. 

  • Foster and facilitate relationships with a broad range of partners through the development of networks to ensure that advocacy messages and communications campaigns are disseminated effectively and built on convergence ideas.

  • Review draft communication plans and materials developed by creative agencies hired by the project.

  • Develop the communications and advocacy plans and budgets for the project and provide technical oversight to the communications and advocacy efforts.

  • Identify and secure critical constituents to develop joint advocacy promotions that increase the awareness of program objectives and goals. Work towards increasing program visibility and showcase achievements of the program.

  • Be responsible for utilizing communication aids, tools, monitoring the impact level, and designing the changes as per the progress of the project implementation.

  • Supervise a team of communication professionals working on various communication aspects like social media, inter-personal communication. 

Qualification & Experience

  • Post-graduate in Mass Communications/Journalism, Social Work or any other related subject from an esteemed institution.

  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience, including 5-7 years of experience of leading/managing communication related programs and teams, preferable with good exposure to health related communications. 

  • Deep exposure and experience in Development sector and social sector communications will be highly advtangeous. 

  • Understanding and knowledge of contemporary communication strategies, tools and best practices in the Public Health arena will be an advantage.  

  • Exemplary communication skills and a thorough comprehension of modern principles of risk communication. 

  • Has a narrative instinct for crafting strategies and messages in a way that emotionally and psychologically connects with audiences.

  • Has keen attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to keep track of large sets of information.
