Position: Senior Health Systems Strengthening Coordinator

Essential Duties and Outcomes:

Strengthen the overall direction and coordination of USAID Health System strengthening activities:

  • Develop a technical strategy to inform the overall direction of USAID Health System Strengthening activities with a special emphasis on reimagining primary care in both rural and urban environments.

  • Lead and guide technical approaches to leverage the private sector, innovative financing, and donor engagement in support of Comprehensive Primary Health Care in both rural and urban settings.

Provide strategy and guidance in the design and implementation of “Empowering Women and Girls through Health:

  • Provide expertise in the development of the overall HO division-wide gender plan working with AORs, implementing partners, and USAID mission and interagency gender representatives.

  • Provide technical advice on integration of gender equality and female empowerment for HSS projects and activities.

Improve private sector engagement efforts designed to bridge the interests of the GOI and the corporate community in support of common HSS goals:

  • Advise USAID HSS Implementing Partners on innovative strategies to leverage the private sector.

  • Guide key government stakeholders at the national and state level on private sector support opportunities and offerings in support of health programs designed to reach the most vulnerable.

Anticipated learning outcomes:

  • Cultivate mentorship skills based on the STAR GH mentorship curriculum to more effectively support and improve knowledge transfer and skills acquisition of staff, incoming fellows and interns.

  • Advance leadership skills to successfully support capacity building and knowledge sharing activities and mentor develop junior staff.

  • Apply leadership skills and technical expertise to support programmatic growth and scale-up within HSS and Gender


  • Minimum 13 years of relevant technical experience, preferably in the health sector with a master’s degree or a minimum of 15 years of relevant technical experience with a bachelor’s degree, must possess an understanding of and experience with international development issues, with specific technical experience related to HSS, gender, and engaging the private sector and other international donor partners.

  • Must be conversant with the important terminology, concepts and organizations associated with international development work, mainly knowledge of USAID guidelines.

  • Must have excellent oral communication and writing skills.

  • Must have experience developing and/or overseeing HSS programming to include human resources for health, health financing, service delivery, and/or leadership development

  • Must have experience integrating gender equality and female empowerment in program development and management.
