Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) is a non-denominational, non-government organization. AKRSP (I) was established in Gujarat in 1984 and it seeks to contribute to rural poverty reduction through community involvement and empowerment that leads to the efficient management and improved productivity of natural resources.

Position: Senior Manager (Natural Resources Management)

Location: Ahmedabad with substantial travel to field areas in MP, Bihar, and Gujarat

Education: Graduate or postgraduate in Civil Engineering, Agriculture Engineering or Environmental Sciences, or Equivalent. Professionals with education in other fields but having extensive experience of working in natural resources management field may also be considered.


• This is a core technical leadership position hence minimum 10 years of experience is desired for this position. Out of these 4 years must be in a leadership position within natural resources management field.
• Ideal candidate needs to have substantial experience of managing large result-oriented projects in the areas of watershed development, participatory irrigation management, irrigation infrastructure development, and forestry. Experience around solar energy, biogas, natural farming practices, and drinking water projects will be an added advantage.

Primary Responsibility:

Candidate will be required to lead natural resources management (NRM) vertical of the organization. This will require providing technical leadership, implementation management, budgeting, costing, outcome analysis, team capacity building around watershed management, irrigation projects, PIM, forestry, clean energy projects etc. It is compulsory for this position to be able to independently lead engagement with donors, field teams, consultants, and government agencies.

Work Profile:

• Manage a large multi-state program activities on irrigation development, watershed management, and clean energy.
• Project planning, technical designs of structures, cost-estimates, implementation management, quality assurance, monitoring, reporting and government liaison will be integral part of job responsibility.
• Manage field teams and enhancing their capacity on NRM activities including community collectives on NRM.
• Monitoring and Knowledge management particularly from climate change mitigation perspective will be among the key responsibilities.
• Preparing and submitting high quality project progress reports.
• Partnership development with government, donors, technical institutions, and other NGOs working in sustainable agriculture and related sectors.
• Policy related work on irrigation, watersheds and other NRM works. Close and continuous relationship is expected with state and national level related government departments/agencies.
• Piloting new approaches and technologies in NRM sector.
• Substantial amount of time is expected to be spent in the field to manage NRM programs.

Skills and competencies required to meet the job requirement:

• Strong practical and theoretical knowledge around watershed development, irrigation management, forestry, solar energy is compulsory.
• Basic knowledge around climate change issues in agriculture is strongly desirable.
• High level competency in managing the project in totality and independently. Financial management of project would be needed.
• Having field level project implementation experience in natural resources, and agriculture sectors.
• Having skill of team and multi-stakeholders’ management
• Strong professional writing and presentation skills.
• Competent in dealing with Funding and Government agencies.
• Good analytical skills.
• Understanding of monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
• Having experience on training and capacity building.
