Special Projects Implementation Manager – Himalayan Rocket Stove

Position – Full time, Consultant

Location – Remote (A Mumbai based candidate would be an advantage)

Reporting – This role will directly report to the founding member & Special Projects Director of HRS based in Mumbai

Earliest start date – Immediate

Project Background –


1) Scale-up deployment of integrated space heating and cooking stoves in remote Himalayan region

The proposed project ‘Scale-up deployment of integrated heating and cooking solution in remote Himalayan region’ is designed based on pilot project executed in 2020-21 to deploy 575 integrated space heating and cooking stoves across Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and North Eastern states of India. This project provided an opportunity to understand the importance of clean combustion technology in terms of affordability, sustainability, scale, usage patterns and behavioural reactions in addition to solving the ‘problem at hand’. Now, we are looking at scaling this up to over 1500 households in the upcoming winter season

Through this project implementation, HRS will look to create sustainable opportunities in the following areas:
- Livelihood enhancement through Clean Energy applications
- Opportunity to facilitate end user financing to access clean energy solutions across the Himalayan region
- Opportunities to understand localised clean bio mass based clean fuel value chain

2) Facilitating and coordinating on HRS’s Carbon credits programme
- Tracking the unit sales and customer details to ensure alignment of data requirements towards carbon mitigation
- Coordinating with Carbon Credits facilitating organisation in order to create opportunities for fund utilization on a sustainable basis

3) Impact management and measurement: Research, field surveys and report writing wherever applicable

This role will be required to perform the following jobs as an Implementation Manager for Subsidy Scale up Programme as a key responsibility:

• Act as central coordination point with all project stakeholders involved in subsidy scale up programme
• Assist in anchoring the project implementation with all regional grass roots partners
• Coordinate with HRS on product supply, training, customer service support for the subsidy scale up programme
• Develop reporting metrics for baseline, midline and evaluation surveys and work with grass roots partners to implement these surveys
• Collation and compilation of field data at periodic intervals with all regional partners
• Assist in managing project finances
• Assist in developing a Road map for sustained level implementation of the project, prepare scenario for scale and financial model of community partnership
• Implement the clean fuel strategy as a pilot case with select HHs
• Prepare first draft of project reports
• Manage the Ladakh & Himachal Pradesh implementation closely with ground teams

Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in a clean energy organisation/project, preferably in clean cooking or any other grass roots energy intervention.

Profile Indicators
• Passionate about tackling the issues related to ‘Climate Change’ and Energy Drudgery with willingness to work with marginalized, vulnerable sections of the society
• Ability and enthusiasm to work at grassroots level directly with the user community
• Co-ordinate and collaborate with multiple vendors and stake holders
• Should be able to travel (necessary) as and when the project requires
• The applicant needs to have a passion for grass roots intervention and be keen to play a part in a clean energy transition programme that promises to positively impact the life of users all around in addition to environmental and social impacts.
• Flare for documenting & photographing the community behaviour will be an advantage

Qualifications & Skills:
• Should have Bachelors’ degree (Environmental Management would be a plus) in any discipline, with fluency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), any additional qualifications and or certification in SDG concepts, Climate change related fields, Fellowship or similar experience with a social enterprise, NGO or a Foundation will be preferred
• Must have excellent analytical skills to work with field data and derive necessary inferences
• Self-directed individual with ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment

Salary Range:

The salary offered will be in the range of INR 25,000 per month (Starting salary) depending on his/her qualifications and prior experience. All travel, lodging and boarding expenses borne during the project duration shall be reimbursed at actuals.
