Position: Vice President, Public Policy, South Asia


  • Lead the policy function in an effort to establish Mastercard as a recognized expert and resource in the payments industry, while delivering a measurable positive impact for Mastercard.

  • Lead a team of policy professionals in accomplishing established corporate and business objectives.

  • Scan the regulatory, legislative and political horizon for relevant regulatory changes (both immediate and long-term).  Brief local, regional and global executive management of regulatory developments and recommend organization’s response.

  • Anticipate significant domestic and regional political trends while developing and modifying strategies to manage these trends.

  • Direct and coordinate all of the company's policy activities across the region and provide leadership and input to senior management in reviewing and analyzing policies affecting the company.

  • Assist Mastercard's other regional public policy and regulatory functions and business units, as appropriate.

  • Work with internal stakeholders and experts to determine potential opportunities and regulatory issues arising from such changes that may impact the Company, its operating models, products and clients.

  • Drive Third Party strategic engagement on policy advocacy and coalition building and participate in industry associations, coalitions and other industry group and work on regulatory change including contributing to industry association responses to consultation papers.

  • Advance bilateral advocacy opportunities – USISPF, USIBC, USBBC, Commerce, USTR, US Embassy etc.

All About You:

  • The ideal candidate will have a distinguished track record as a high achieving government relations executive with a demonstrated capacity to build and execute public affairs programs that support business growth within a dynamic and changing corporation.

  • Educated to degree level, with management experience in similar Public Policy/Government Relations roles in a major multinational business or agency or high-profile association and with strong background in dealing with Government and influencers in terms of frequency and quality of relationships

  • Significant policy experience, preferably including policy experience in technology or financial services issues

  • Strong leadership and management skills with particular success building and enhancing credibility for the function with the organization.

  • Proven experience and comfort with Executive level policy interactions

  • Willing to travel both, within the S. Asia region as required, and as necessary to regional HQ in Singapore and global headquarters in Purchase, New York.

  • A willingness to work as part of a team and help out on all matters.

  • Genuine interest in public policy, current events and the political environment.
